In memory of Skype (2003-2025)

For those who don't know what Skype is, you literally inside a rock.
Skype was a messaging and calling + videocalling software born in the early 2000s by the people who created Kazaa, a software of MP3 files sharing. Skype didn't only revolutionazed the way we even communicate in the modern day, but also helped small and big businesses for daily work. Skype could be seen on the news when someone was in a video conference and even in interviews when the both of them couldn't make it to the studio because of scheduling and appointments.

Skype is also famous for is legacy sounds effects when you would log-in, log-off, call someone, receive a call, etc. Specially the 'Skype Ringtone' became pretty popular, often used as a meme, and now it's also part of the Internet Museum.

Skype had fall in the early 2010s after being bought by Microsoft for 8.5 billion dollars. Skype is an example of those softwares in the Web 2.0 era and the early 2000s that didn't keep up with the fast evolution of the Internet. In fact Skype would often be not used in favor of Whatsapp or Facebook Messenger that were increasing popularity at that time.

Skype still was used by businesses, until even these were abandoning the software and mirgating to other work tools, and for school during the 2020 pandemic.

I still remember when I would call my cousin and my grandma through Skype. I videocalled my cousin everyday till 2021 using Skype.

Goodbye Skype, I always loved using you to connect with others.
